KILIFI
Kilifi has some of the most beautiful and unspoiled beaches in Kenya. The town lies on the Kilifi Creek, which forms a stunning estuary with the Goshi River. The creek is ideal for sailing, kayaking, fishing and birdwatching. The south side of the creek has the Shauri Moyo beach, which is popular with locals and tourists alike. The north side has the Bofa beach, which is quieter and more secluded. Both beaches have white sand, clear water and palm trees.
One of the main attractions in Kilifi is the Mnarani ruins, which are located on the south side of the creek. These are the remains of an ancient Swahili settlement that dates back to the 14th century. The ruins include mosques, tombs, houses and a pillar tomb that is unique in East Africa. Mnarani is a swahili word derived from the word 'Mnara' meaning a minaret or pillar.
Kilifi has a vibrant food scene that reflects its cosmopolitan nature. The town has a variety of restaurants, cafes and bars that serve local and international cuisine. Some of the popular dishes include seafood, pilau, biryani, chapati, samosa and coconut rice.
Kilifi is a coastal paradise that offers something for everyone. Anyone looking for relaxation, adventure, culture or education, will find it here.
