CLIMATE

East Africa enjoys pleasant weather all year-round, and is a great destination at any time of the year. Temperatures generally range from around 15°C at the coldest months, to around 30°C at the hottest.

Differences in temperature are determined more by region than by the season of the year. Highland areas such as around Mount Kenya and the Aberdares feature cooler temperatures. Warmer temperatures can be found in the Savannah grasslands. Coastal regions and those around Lake Victoria feature hotter temperatures.

Early mornings and evenings on Safari tend to be quite chilly, especially during the months of June, July and August. You would be advised to pack a thick sweater, or a heavy jacket.

MONEY

The local currency is Kenya Shillings, however USD is widely accepted at hotels, lodges and camps. Most properties accept card payments via Visa or Mastercard credit cards.

It is recommended that you carry a small amount of cash, as a backup just in case. Small notes may be helpful for paying bills or tipping.

NETWORK COVERAGE

Kenya has widespread mobile network coverage with an extensive range of 4G. Most properties have WiFi in the main areas.

International roaming services are not automatically enabled on cell phones. You will need to contact your service provider and ask them to activate the international feature. Visit the website of your carrier to get up-to-date information on coverage and options.

PLASTIC BAGS

Plastic bags are strictly banned in Kenya! Please make sure that you do not carry any (including duty free shopping bags) with you into the country. Zip-lock bags and/or travel pouches are fine to use.

For more information on the government's decision to ban plastic bags in Kenya, learn more at https://www.nema.go.ke.
