MAASAI MARA
The Maasai Mara is a beautiful and expansive game reserve in southwestern Kenya that is home to an incredible array of wildlife, including all of the Big Five. It is a place of great natural beauty, where the incredible diversity and abundance of wildlife is a testament to the resilience and adaptability of the natural world.
Visitors to the Maasai Mara are often treated to breathtaking sightings of large herds of elephants, giraffes, and wildebeest, as well as smaller groups of more elusive animals like leopards and cheetahs. Prides of lions patrol their territories. Visitors may also encounter many endangered species, such as the black rhinoceros and the Grevy's zebra.
The Mara is not only a place of natural beauty. It is also a place of great cultural significance. The Maasai people, who have lived in the region for centuries, have a deep connection to the land and its wildlife. The reserve was named in honour of them. The word "Mara" means "spotted" in the Maasai language, due to the many short bushy trees which dot the landscape when viewed from afar.
Anyone who has the opportunity to visit the Maasai Mara should not hesitate to do so, as it is an experience that will stay with them for a lifetime.
