OVERVIEW

This is a three day tour of Tsavo East National Park, known for its abundant and varied wildlife, especially its massive herds of red elephants that wander the plains and bathe in the Galana River. The elephants are the largest and most numerous in Kenya, and they have a distinctive reddish-brown color due to the dust they spray on themselves.

The park is home to other animals such as rhinos, buffaloes, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hippos and many more. The rhinos are among the most endangered animals in the world, and are protected in a fenced sanctuary within the park. The lions are famous for their maneless appearance and their reputation as man-eaters during the construction of the railway in the 19th century.

Accommodation is at the excellent Ashnil Aruba Lodge, located on the banks of Aruba Dam which was built in 1952 as a sport fishing recreational point in the park. Several watering holes nearby attract wildlife and spotting animals is easy because the park lies flat with savannah grassland. All accommodation at Ashnil Aruba Lodge is African-inspired. Each room includes a seating area, a wardrobe and an en suite bathroom with a bath, a shower and free toiletries. Dining options include Ashnil Aruba Lodge's restaurant, which serves Oriental and international cuisine, along with a range of traditional African dishes. 24-hour room service is available.

Transport to and from Tsavo is by the SGR Train. Transfers from and to Voi Train Station are included. Game drives within the national park, will be in safari landcruiser 4x4 vehicles, with pop-up roofs for panoramic 360° game viewing. The vehicles are driven by professional driver-guides, with comprehensive knowledge of the reserve and the wildlife within.

This tour is customisable in a number of ways:

Ashnil Aruba Lodge

This lodge is situated on the shaded northern bank of the Voi River looking across the famous Aruba Dam. Several watering holes nearby attract wildlife, which makes spotting animals easy.
