SOPA AMBOSELI
OVERVIEW
This is a luxury five day - four night tour of the Amboseli National Park, famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to free-ranging elephants. Visitors may also spot lions, cheetahs, hyenas, zebras, giraffes and wildebeests in the park's ecosystem, mainly savannah grassland spread across the Kenya-Tanzania border. This region inspired Ernest Hemingway's unforgettable stories 'The Snows of Kilimanjaro' and 'The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber', in tthe 1930's, which were later turned into more than successful feature films in the 1940's.
Set in 200 acres of private land, accommodation is at the Amboseli Sopa Lodge, nestled in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro which, at almost six thousand metres, is Africa's highest and most famous snowcapped mountain. The Lodge is set within mature wooded gardens, home to numerous species of birds as well as monkeys, mongooses, squirrels, duikers, the occasional gazelle and, once in a while, even an ever inquisitive leopard.
Rustic, well spaced cottages meander through the gardens, housing eighty three guest rooms. These are all brightly decorated with Maasai themed wall murals, and each room has been purpose built to contain either one or two queen sized beds as well as a veranda. The Kibo Restaurant, named after the tallest peak on Mt. Kilimanjaro, offers guests excellent local and international dishes.
Transport to and within the national park is by road, in private safari landcruiser 4x4 vehicles, with pop-up roofs for panoramic 360° game viewing. The vehicles are driven by professional driver-guides, with comprehensive knowledge of the park and the wildlife within.
This tour is customisable. The number of days can be increased or decreased as per request. Travel to and from the national park, can be changed to air travel instead of by road.
